Burna Boy’s sixth album, “Love, Damini” has only been out for six days.
But I feel like I’ve had this album for a long time. I’ve played it, rinsed it, put it on repeat, had several favorite songs, and yeah, it’s kinda growing on me.
“Love, Damini” is his first album since the three-year run that led to his 2021 Grammy triumph. Burna Boy has really taken his time to work on this one, and anyone can feel it.
There’s still more to discover in this new one, for sure. But at the moment, these are the five songs I am feeling the most from the album.
1. Cloak & Dagger ft. J Hus
Okay, maybe I’m a bit sentimental about this one because I’m a big J Hus fan. But still, this is quite a banger, you can’t deny it.
“Cloak & Dagger” is the only song on the album with rap, and it stands out honestly. He should probably make a video for it.
2. Science
I like this one because it has the feel of another Burna Boy song from back in the day that I like, “Jealousy.”
“Science” is that raw Burna Boy, with no Grammy on the line, with no thoughts about the Billboard, just Burna being himself.
3. For My Hand ft. Ed Sheeran
There’s a good reason why this quickly got the single treatment. Partly because it features Ed Sheeran, of course, but also because it’s a tune that no one can get out of their heads.
“For My Hand” is the ultimate love song and the performances from the two men were just exceptional.
4. Last Last
Hey, I know we’ve all heard this one and some of you might already be tired of “Last Last,” but let’s not forget how good a song this is.
“Last Last” is a deep song low-key. The kind of song that makes us feel lucky to have an artist like Burna Boy.
5. Common Person
There’s not a lot of artists who could write songs from multiple perspectives in our industry. But Burna Boy is luckily one of them.
“Common Person” is a song about the common person, the everyday person who listens to Burna Boy. It’s about all of us. That’s why Burna Boy will always be one of the best songwriters in this industry.
Well, that’s it for me.
